When Sony formally unveiled the PS4 last February, they forgot to show one thing: the actual console itself. A new teaser video for their upcoming system has apparently been leaked, and it’s given us our first look at the casing for Sony’s next-gen system.
The video wasn’t posted by any of the official Playstation accounts, so right now this news is firmly in rumor territory, but the video itself looks too professional and slickly produced to be a fake.
We only get brief glimpses of the new system in the video, but the system features a big, glowing LED stripe running down the center of the system, in addition to an illuminated PS4 logo at the top. Like the original “fat” PS3 models, it’s molded with glossy, black plastic, and two, front-mounted USB ports can be seen in the video. It sort of looks like something out of Tron:Legacy, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, considering that aesthetic style was one of that movie’s (few) strong points.
Of course, the actual physical look of a console is a pretty minor concern for most gamers, but if the above video is legit, then it’s good to know that the PS4 has some style to it and doesn’t look like another simple plastic box.
UPDATE -Well, Sony themselves say it’s a fake, so there goes that big scoop. If it was real, Sony probably would’ve given the usual “we don’t comment on rumors or speculation,” response, but Sony has emphatically stated that they had nothing to do with the video above. Too bad; it looked pretty cool, so much so that I still kind of want to believe that the PS4 is actually going to look like that. I suppose all those glowing bits would’ve been distracting if you like to play in a dark room, though.
