Console-less fans of Tim Schafer or Double Fine Productions, rejoice: the previously console exclusive Brütal Legend is finally coming to the PC.
Brütal Legend is already available for pre-order on Steam, and anyone who pre-purchases the game before Thursday will get a 25% discount, knocking the game’s price down to $15. The title was originally published on the Xbox 360 and PS3 by EA back in 2009, but the PC release is being handled by Double Fine themselves. It’s currently unknown if the PC version will sport any extra content or improvements over the console versions.
I’m not really sure why Double Fine decided to wait until now to release Brütal Legend on PC: the game got a less than glowing reception when it was originally released due to its awkward RTS segments, and I can’t imagine that it’ll be anymore impressive 3 years later. Don’t get me wrong, I love Double Fine (Pyschonauts is one of my favorite games of all time,) but Brütal Legend was definitely a disappointment. Double Fine managed to deliver an excellent story with some great, laugh-at-loud jokes (and some great cameos from Metal legends like Lemmy and Rob Halford,) but let me assure you, people aren’t exaggerating when they say that it really jumps the shark when it turns into an RTS during the second half of the game. Of course, perhaps the RTS battles will play a little smoother now that they’re on a platform that’s better suited for strategy games, or maybe some clever modders will find a way to fix the RTS mechanics or edit them out completely.
Anyway, if you’re still interested in giving the game a chance, Double Fine says the game should be up on Steam sometime on Valentine’s Day afternoon.
