In preparation for the impending PlayStation event this Wednesday, February 20, Sony has released the latest video in their “Evolution of PlayStation” series which takes a look back at the different eras and incarnations of the PlayStation brand.
If you haven’t seen the series, Sony has up to this point released a video for each individual console, and just this morning released their video highlighting the PS3. I’ll collect the entire playlist within this article so those who wish to check back here before the Sony event can watch the series and refresh their knowledge of PlayStation history.

Update 2: Having concluded their look back at consoles, Sony’s final entry in the evolution series focuses on what matters most, the games. Today’s the big announcement so make sure to check back for the latest breaking news as it happens.
With all of these videos looking back at what the Sony brand has accomplished, it seems a surefire bet Wednesday’s event will be focused on looking ahead toward the future of PlayStation; more specifically, the release of the PS4. While Sony has yet to officially state the event will include an announcement of the new console, with all the media buzz that’s been generated they’re almost obligated to discuss it at this point.
I know any type of retrospective article will bring the fanboys out in full force, so to proactively quell the inevitable console war about to erupt, let me just say that Sony has brought just as much innovation to the video game industry as anyone else. Their consoles have always been powerful, reliable, and future proof, with the thought of cross-media applications always at the forefront. No matter which company you subscribe to, or which software you find superior, there’s no denying that Sony’s introduction to the industry was a game changer; and they’ve been raising the standard for interactive entertainment ever since. Whatever announcements they do discuss this week, you can bet they’ll be of interest to every gamer, no matter which console (or PC) you favor.
What types of announcements are you looking forward to this week? Is it enough for Sony to just announce the PS4, or are you looking for details about some launch titles as well? Would anyone be curious about a new Vita model, or are you hoping this event is entirely centered around the PS4? Let us know in the comments below.
