EA and Bioware just announced Mass Effect Trilogy, a special box set that packages all three Mass Effect games (spread out over 5 discs,) in one special package for $60. Of course, you could probably pick up the games individually for slightly less, but now it comes in a shiny box! …Now a whole new audience will get to experience the Mass Effect saga for one low price, and I’m sure we’re about to see a second wave of people bitching that ME3’s ending ruined their lives.
PS3 owners in particular should be interested in the package, because as far as I can tell, this is the only way you’ll be able to play through the entirety of Mass Effect 1 on your PS3. The original title in the series was previously only available on Xbox 360 and PC. Save files from games in the boxset will be interchangeable with files from the individual releases.
I’ve already said my peace about Mass Effect 3, but I’ll say it again, just to reiterate — despite the lackluster ending, I still feel like every game in the Mass Effect trilogy was overall amazing, and to judge the entire series (dozens of hours of gameplay), or even just ME3, solely on the last 20 minutes of it is entirely unfair. But hey, if you want to ignore the other 99% of the series’ content and gameplay so you can spew some diatribe about how Bioware betrayed you and that the series is RUINED FOREVER, you’re certainly entitled to do so.
Meanwhile, anyone who isn’t filled with seething nerd rage can pick up Mass Effect Trilogy on November 6th on Xbox 360 and PC. The PS3 version will arrive sometime before the end of the year.
